Dear Members,

I have been asked the same question in the past weeks and it amazes me that parents only now are opening their eyes to the fact that the future is in the global trade, markets, internet.

Therefore, if you wish to give your child a special boost and a head start, a foreign language is an essential step to accomplishing it.

Studies show that children who acquire a foreign language at an early age, not only excel in math, reasoning, and early reading among other skills, but they show a lifelong native like pronunciation and fluency of the second language.

Some parents invest thousands of dollars a year in karate, soccer, or dance, but how about an activity which will give a lifelong experience to the little ones? One which will change and open brain areas otherwise not accessed?

A friend asked me “Claudia, what do you think we can do to ensure our children will grow up ready to separate themselves from the crowd and be winners?” I told her, get your children enrolled in a foreign language program!

A person who masters a second language has a spot not only on the national marketplace, but in other countries, working for companies in the US with branches abroad which need those skills.

So if you are now worried about what kind of future your child will face in the marketplace, what kind of jobs she/he will find, call your local foreign language school and take the first step towards giving your child a future!

Dear Members,

After searching for info on some sites and contacting my Mexican and Spanish Translators, I have reached the confusing conclusion that there isn’t and there is Halloween in Spanish.

The Spanish speaking countries used to celebrate that date as Dia de Los Muertos,  Dia de las Brujas, Dia das Bruxas……..offering celebrations in honor of the dead. Nowadays, the tradition has changed in many countries and the trick or treat has been incorporated….Dulces o travesuras….and other ways of saying it!

The modern world linked us through the Internet, linking our cultures, costumes and more. Even in Brazil, where this wasn’t a date celebrated at all, the Halloween has slowly taken over, at first in English Private Schools, now in other Schools…..costumes and dancing are no longer a Carnival privilege, costumes and dancing have been brought to October, which is also celebrated in Brazil as the Children’s month.

My nephew Daniel asked for a spiderman costume to wear at his school party and looking for the costume, while planning Spanish Speaking Halloween Classes, brought all those issues and research around this theme.

Wikipedia has a good article on it. I would definitely recommend it!

No matter what your tradition is, Halloween for the kids is about having fun and bringing their fantasies to life, whether you have a princess, a pumpkin, x-man or a transformer, let and encourage children to expose their fantasies to day dream and most of all, be happy!!

Please contact me if you wish to have a copy of my lesson plans for ages 14m up to 10 years old on Spanish Halloween and links and videos to be used in class or at home.

Spooky Saludos,

Dear Members,

Teaching children is a great part of my life! I have been approached by some Portuguese speaking parents who don’t have the time, environment to teach their children Portuguese, so while searching for materials to offer my Portuguese Program for children, I have found some games, lullabies, songs and stories which are timeless and will be offered here on a monthly basis.

I will also post tips on how to use the materials at home.

This song, Se voca esta feliz, has an English version, if you’re happy…..I use this song to teach body parts and while singing we use movement in the activity. I added the video on youtube and the link to the words as well.

My son loves this song, we play and sing with it.

I hope you enjoy!

Abracos,
