Dear Members,

Caetano is one of my favorite singers! I had the privilege to attend this show in Sao Paulo. It’s a very cute song…..in the show he said the first time he heard the song on the radio, it was sung by Sandra de Sa and he loved it and he decided he wanted to sing it, when he found out Peninha wrote it, he loved it even more and when he heard Tim Maia signing, then he changed his mind ….. but there he is, singing it. The DVD is available for purchase.

I hope you enjoy it!

Regards,

Dear Members,

I used this song to teach summer vocabulary class and I thought I should include it here, because it reminds me of Bahia and it has a special acaraje  Sunday afternoon taste. Acaraje is a delicious bean cake, which is fried in dende oil and brought to Bahia from African Slaves when they arrived- DELICIOUS! The song brought the idea of vacation and  healthy peaceful laziness feeling that my state has received through the years by other Brazilian states.

I hope you enjoy the song and the video which features, Toquinho e Gilberto Gil, very nice!

I wish you a great day!

Tarde em Itapoa

Tom Jobim

Composicao: Vinicius de Moraes e Toquinho

Um velho calcao de banho
o dia pra vadiar
um mar que nao tem tamanho
um arco-iris no ar.
Depois da praca Caymi
sentir preguica no corpo
e numa esteira de vime
beber uma agua de coco.

Refrao
E bom… passar uma tarde em Itapoa
ao sol que arde em Itapoa
ouvindo o mar de Itapoa
falar de amor em Itapoa.

Enquanto o mar inaugura
um verde novinho em folha
argumentar com docura
com uma cachaca de rolha.

E com o olhar esquecido
no encontro de ceu e mar
bem devagar e sentindo
a terra toda rodar.

Refrao
Depois sentir o arrepio
do vento que a noite traz
e o diz-que-diz macio
que brota dos coqueirais.

E nos espasos serenos
sem ontem nem amanha
dormir nos brasos morenos
da lua de Itapoa.

Dear Members,

I have decided to add this song, which is very interesting, melody is upbeat but the words bring a very strong feeling of rabia, hate….

I used this song in Spanish Classes to teach Past Tense; music is a great tool to bring the foreign language closer to students, I would highly recommend if you haven’t used it!

The video is really interesting, I hope you enjoy it!
